From Andrew
Hey mom and dad.
How are you doing? I’m doing really good. My allergies kind of come and go with the weather. When the wind picks up they are a lot worse. And it’s often windy. But sis Francis called yesterday morning and said that you had called. She told me to get the shot where ever. I’m going to probably call around today to find it somewhere. Thank you for responding to that. Hopefully I find a place and may allergies will be gone soon.
So yesterday I almost cut off my foot. Ha ha Just kidding. But I did do some crazy mowing. We went to Sara’s and she had not been able to mow her hill in her back yard. So I did it for her. Her back gives her a lot of trouble so we help her where we can. The hill was like at a 45 degree angle. I stood on top first and mowed as far as I could reach. Then I stood to the side and shimmied along the hill mowing in front of me. It was crazy hard. Mowing the hills of PA sucks. But they look amazing. That was the first time we got to sit down with Sara in a long time. We are going to mow her lawn for her every week to help her out and hen when one of us is mowing the other will be reading the scriptures with her or playing with the kids. It’s a really good opportunity to teach and show our love for her.
One thing that mowing Sara’s lawn got us out of was a blessing. Heather Holloway has asked us to heal her of her Diabetes. She is the one who took like five months to be confirmed. She believes she has the faith to be healed but she won’t even come to church. I was very worried about it because if nothing happens I don’t want her to use it as an excuse to avoid being active. She says that through prayer she has been told by god that she will be healed of her diabetes. But she also says that god has told her that she will get back together with Jacob her sons father. He is currently married and happy with two kids with his wife. The child Heather had with him, Jacob, was out of wedlock. I don’t know if god would make him get a divorce so she can have her way. She also says that she is prompted by god not to go to church. She says she believes in the priesthood power but she won’t act on her faith by coming to church. Or paying her tithing or allow home teachers. What do you think about that dad and mom? What would you do dad? If you could reply to this as well as my previous email about the human body exhibit today that would be cool because we are going over to her house on Friday.
Not much else is going on. Stacey and mike are kind of stagnating right now. We have found some pretty cool investigators that I think could go some where. Today we are going golfing. That should be cool. Did I tell you we got a new car? I think I wrote you about it in the letter I sent. Because of no mail on Monday you probably will get that letter today or tomorrow. When in send the letter to you I put them in the mail on Monday. What day do you get them?
Well I love you very much and I’m looking forward to seeing picture of you and the house and I would really like some recipes. I don’t really need anything else. Thank you again for calling about the allergy shots. Love ya.

Here is the reply that I gave Andrew.

Andrew,
What religion was Sara before she joined the church. It sounds to me like she has not really left her old church. Some evangelical churches teach that you just need faith you dont need to go to church, you can get bacisally Miraculous healings, answers to prayer. That sort of thing. And they really believe it, but it sounds to me like her beliefs may not be a result of the spirit but of her former belief systems. Especially if all of the things she wants are coming her way especially when some of them go against commandments like attending sacrament meetings. I do believe that the spirit can inspire you to skip "A" meeting for some reason of to follow that kind of prompting you had better be active, prayful and in tune to the spirit.
I think I would pray about what to do with her. Dont let her use you or the church. Service is wonderful if it is genuinely given and received. It is not the correct thing if it is just wanted. Lots of people would join the church if the church welfare system didnt require a return of some kind of service for it. So you will have to be able to use the spirit to decern if YOU are doing the right thing, not the desperate thing.
I would teach her the lesson about how to receive and recognize the spirit. Bacisally you receive the spirit in answer to prayer after folling the commandments. If you are not following the commandments you may be receiving the light of christ but not necessarly inspriation from the Holy Ghost. Which could mean that she is interperting her own feelings as inspiration.
In my opinion you may be better served tracking your guts out to find that one person who will listen to the church for the first time, Hear one lessong and never invite you back but then carry that seed in their heart. Nothing wrong with serving Sara but remember you are on the Lord errand, not your own. Make sure your service to her is in line with inspiration.
Stacey and Mike. Same thing as in the previous paragraph. Pray and do the right thing. Make sure they know and the bishopric knows that they have been invited to attend church and that they are welcome and that you love them and will be there for them. But again, pray and know if that is where to put your time. Imagain what they are going through. She and He live together, She believes in the chruch, She wants to get married. He lets her know that marriage is a deal breaker. That much be super hard to her and of course it must be very hard on the family. And the very last thing Father In Heaven wants us to do is break up families for any reason.
Dont measure your success by your baptisms or by the families you bring in. Measure it by the amount of Honest Service you Give Father in Heaven. And by how well you follow his will. Dont be blinded by you good and rightious desire to serve and baptize these two families unless your sure it is what you Father in Heaven wants. And dont get down thinking your not getting things done if your not baptizing. If your working hard and your getting his work done thats what counts.
I love you and Im very proud of you. Have fun with your comp at the science thing,
Love Dad
