We’re still here, in Mexico

The holidays are over, we think, but we heard a Christmas carol at the shopping center today. We are back to work, and the work, and our zone celebrated this weekend with a small baptismal service right after Stake Conference. We have five new members in our ward who will be confirmed next Sunday. I got to baptize one of them, Oscar Ivan Saldana Gonzales. He is a nice 27 year old man with two children 4 & 6. He wants to baptize their mother and get married in the temple. They are separated right now. We are including the baptism photos in this blog. So far in our 8 plus months we have been involved in finding, teaching and baptizing 15 people, and we have 7 more hopefuls that we are working on. We try to visit with Rodolfo and Martin at least once a week, and encourage them to make the next step towards baptism; they just have a few little details to take care of. We love this work. It is truly incredible to see the change that comes over people when they receive a testimony and enter the waters of baptism.
We have moved our tracting over across the main street into a large area of single family dwellings. They are two stories similar to ours but each house has two floors. We love this because we don’t have any stairs to climb.
It hasn’t rained here in three or four weeks and as a result the water delivery system is a little bit miserly. We have run out of water three times in the last two weeks. We have water to drink of course, because we buy that, but the bathing, flushing, and dishwashing water is scarce.
Thanks to Cordell we got to see some great photos of the family this week. They are of Halloween, and various candid shots of the family. We enjoy sharing in the family gatherings and special events. We hope we will see some baptism photos of Josie and DJ, and more of the family having fun together.
We were asked to keep an elder with us for a couple of days, just during the day time when the office staff had some special meetings. He has just recently been diagnosed with diabetes, and he has to take it a little bit easy while they get his blood sugar levels stabilized. He was able to help us a bit with our Spanish, and also talk to a couple of our contacts and set up appointments.
We will look forward to seeing some more posts from anyone who has the time and or feels the urge. We love you all and we appreciate all your prayers and support for this work. The gospel is true, and God’s church has been restored to the earth for the last time in these last days. Families can be forever and we are all immortal and can have, through faith in Jesus Christ, eternal life. It’s our choice.
Love to all Grandma and Grandpa / mom and Dad.

PS
The blog isn't accepting photos right now, I´ll add later.

Hey Mom and Dad
Its been 8 months already. I was sitting down thinking about where I was on my mission at Eight months and by them I was fully engaged in the work. I know that both of you are too. Are you getting to a point where the language is starting to work for you at all. Of course 8 months is a long time to hold your breath but its not a long time to learn a whole new language, but I wouldnt be surprised if by now you can clearly understand things and that your at a point where your learning is going to accelerate. So with 16 months to go I think you will get more and more effective and more and more in tune with everything going on. Work hard and love the people but don’t start looking for condos. I know the two of you will settle in pretty deep if given the chance.

Andrew is doing well as is the rest of the family. He sent us a letter that was fun to get. He is clearly changing and growing up. It a wonderful thing to see and read about. He gets excited telling us about giving out Book of Mormons and of hearing the testimonies of his investigators. He is really loving it and it is fun to hear from his because he is still Andrew. Some of the things he says are fun for example he said “ My mission has defiantly shown me one thing about people and that that people are stupid. It drives me nuts that people can think that all religions can be right. That’s just dumb. And lot so people think that as long as you accept Jesus as your personal Savior and redeemer you will be saved. The born agains, that’s so dumb. We even have a song about them but its not very dignified.” But besides stupid people our investigators are really doing well. We ask our investigator Sarah how she felt about the gospel . She gave us all the answers Ive heard in our senerios. Ive heard the answers so often from other missionaries that It almost seemed weird to hear it from a live person. But it makes perfect sense to hear it though its just the first time Ive heard it from someone other than a missionary. It really felt great to hear her say that she felt the Book of Mormon was true. So the mission field is Good. Ive met plenty of people whe are completely nuts and I love them all. Its really weird. I love the missionary work and Im having a great time out here. I love you all Andrew.

I love getting those letters. He life will be better forever because of this and from my point of view I can sell hit clearly. He is going to have a good life.

I will write more later. Love Cordell
